Win streak halted for Texas Stars at end of successful road trip

The Texas Stars fell to the Rockford IceHogs 6-2 in Rockford, Ill., ending the Stars’ five-game winning streak Saturday night.

Despite the loss, the Stars (13-9-0-1) ended their seven-game road trip with a 5-2 record. They’ll play the next five games at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.

Vinnie Hinostroza led the IceHogs (13-9-1-0) with three assists while Anthony Louis and Matthew Highmore each scored a goal and assisted on another.

The Stars actually held a 1-0 lead after the first period. Roope Hintz scored his eighth goal of the season to give Texas the short-lived advantage.

The IceHogs erupted for three goals in the middle frame. Louis scored on a power play to tie the game before Highmore notched his 10th goal of the season less than two minutes later.

William Pelletier added another goal for Rockford with less than two minutes to go in the period.

The Stars didn’t respond until the IceHogs were up 5-1 in the third period. Rockford built the lead as a result of goals by Darren Raddysh and Luc Snuggerud.

Mark McNeill scored 14 minutes into the final period to pull the Stars to within three goals.

Tomas Jurco added an empty-net score to close out the win.

Landon Bow had a rough night in goal for Texas, stopping 25 of the 30 shots he faced. Jeff Glass earned the win as he made 29 saves on the 31 shots he faced.

The Stars are back in action on Tuesday as they host Iowa at 7:30 p.m.
