Texas Stars win third straight AHL contest

Samuel Laberge scored his first career goal in the third period to help the Texas Stars defeat the Cleveland Monsters 3-2 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday night.

The win for the Stars (11-8-0-1) was the second in as many days over the Monsters (7-6-2-2), who they defeated on 4-1 on Friday afternoon.

It was also the first time the Stars won three straight games since starting the season 3-0.

Landon Bow earned another his sixth win in his last nine games as he made 21 saves on 23 shots. Joonas Korpisalo stopped 20 of the 23 shots he faced for Cleveland.

Roope Hintz scored on assists from Matt Mangene and Andrew Bodnarchuk at 2:40 into the first period. The power play goal was good for Hintz’s sixth score of the season.

Nick Moutrey tied the contest when he scored just over a minute later in the period. He was assisted by Carter Camper and John Ramage.

Brian Flynn scored the lone goal of the middle frame to put Texas up 2-1. The shorthanded goal was assisted by Brent Regner.

Laberge’s winning goal was scored 6:24 into the final period and assisted by Max French and Dillon Heatherington.

The Monsters tried to pull off a comeback, but Miles Koules’ goal with less than five minutes in regulation was all Cleveland could do.
