Texas Stars win in overtime


Travis Morin scored in overtime to lift the Texas Stars to a 3-2 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Wednesday night.

A busy second period left the game tied through regulation.

Denis Gurianov scored at 8:47 into the middle frame to give the Stars (37-24-8-5) the lead. Sheldon Dries got the assist on the goal.

Greg Rallo added another goal for Texas almost three minutes later. Gavin Bayreuther and Brent Regner assisted on the play.

Less than two minutes later, the Griffins (40-25-2-7) responded to get back in the game. Dan Renouf pulled Grand Rapids to within a goal when he scored at 13:04 into the period. Brian Lashoff tied the game under three minutes later.

Mike McKenna made 25 saves on 27 shots to earn the win for Texas.

Jared Coreau was hit with the loss as he saved 26 shots.

Neither team scored in the third period, forcing overtime where Morin picked up his 10th goal and 60th point of the season.

Both squads went 0-for-1 on the power play.

The Stars finish off the regular season with a home-and-home series against the Rampage beginning on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in San Antonio.
