In a matchup between state-ranked Class 6A teams, No. 2 Westlake held on for a 70-65 victory over No. 11 Lake Travis on Tuesday night. The Chaparrals have won seven straight games over their District 25-6A rival, but this was the first contest in that streak decided by fewer than 10 points. … McNeil, trying to extend its playoff streak to 12 straight years, beat Westwood for its third consecutive District 13-6A victory. Sam Latham had 17 points in the 55-51 triumph. The Mavericks now trail Westwood by two games for the fourth and final playoff spot in the district with three games to go in the regular season. … After opening District 14-6A play with four consecutive wins, San Marcos has dropped back-to-back district games to Del Valle and Manor, respectively. The Ratters are now tied with Del Valle and Anderson atop the District 14-6A standings with two losses apiece. … Rouse remained unbeaten in District 19-5A with 53-37 win over Georgetown on Tuesday and can clinch at least a share of the district title with a win over second-place Connally on Friday. Rouse’s seven-game winning streak has propelled the Raiders to No. 23 in the Class 5A state poll, as they make their first appearance this season in the rankings. … Ja’Quai Najomo had 18 points for Connally in an 81-51 win over East View on Tuesday, when the Cougars notched their sixth consecutive win. …Austin High has lost two consecutive District 25-5A games — to Reagan and LBJ — despite 39 points from point guard Josh Jones on Tuesday. The Maroons trail McCallum by one game for the district’s fourth and final playoff spot. … Glenn moved past Lampasas into third place in District 19-4A with a 48-45 victory over the Badgers. Liberty Hill leads a red-hot Burnet by one game in the battle for first place in the district. Burnet, which beat Llano 73-44 Tuesday behind 18 points from 6-foot-5 forward Cole Younger, has won nine of its past 10 games. … Jarrell (22-4) remained atop the latest Class 3A state poll compiled by the Texas Association of Basketball coaches, and Thorndale (24-3) continued to top the Class 2A poll. In TAPPS, Brentwood (14-15) was ranked ninth in the Class 4A state poll.
