Quarterbacks: In a state quarterfinal victory over Hendrickson last week, Cedar Ridge senior Ezekial Coss completed 11 of 20 passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns, raising his season total to 26. … Allen junior Grant Tisdale, a four-star recruit being courted by Texas and Ohio State, rushed for two TDs and passed for a third as the Eagles topped Euless Trinity 41-20 in a state quarterfinal. Other offense: Raiders senior Simi Bakare, who has been slowed recently by a leg injury, has run for more than 1,700 yards and a school-record 29 TDs. WR Jaylen Ellis, a Baylor pledge, has piled up 22 touchdown catches. … Allen senior Brock Sturges has rushed for nearly 1,900 yards this season while scoring 25 touchdowns. WR Theo Wease, a four-star recruit once committed to Oklahoma, offers Tisdale an inviting target. Edge: Cedar Ridge.
Defense: Cedar Ridge piled up seven sacks against Hendrickson, which managed just two points last week. Three of the Raiders’ playoff opponents totaled 18 or fewer points. … Allen has given up only 144 yards rushing and 103 yards passing per game this season, and the Eagles have yet to allow a postseason opponent to score more than one second-half TD. Special teams: Raiders K Jose Berlanga has converted all 21 of his extra-point attempts in the playoffs and he’s also been good on field-goal attempts of 35 and 41 yards. … Allen K Brady Ellsworth kicked two field goals — a 22- and a 35-yarder — last week against Euless Trinity. Edge: Cedar Ridge
Intangibles: A sixth-year varsity program, Cedar Ridge is in the midst of the best postseason in school history. The Raiders have a 34-4 record since 2015. … Allen enjoyed a UIL state championship three-peat in 2012-14, and the Eagles are appearing in a state semifinal for the sixth straight season.
