North Carolina turned a 14-point deficit into a 17-point victory against Miami in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament.
The Tar Heels defeated the Hurricanes 82-65 on Thursday night at the Barclays Center.
North Carolina advances to face in-state rival Duke in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament on Friday at 9 p.m. (EST).
Theo Pinson had game highs in points (career-best 25) and rebounds (11) for North Carolina. Ja’Quan Newton led Miami with 17 points.
North Carolina won despite poor shooting performances from Joel Berry (4-for-14) and Luke Maye (1-for-15).
Miami raced out to a 14-0 lead as North Carolina began the game 0-for-13 from the field, which made North Carolina coach Roy Williams furiously empty out his bench.
The Tar Heels’ first three points came on a layup and free throw from Seventh Woods with 12:51 left in the first half.
North Carolina would soon thereafter re-insert the starters and rally to take a 32-31 lead into halftime.
The Tar Heels took the lead for good at 52-50 after a pair of free throws from Berry with 10:30 remaining.
Anthony Lawrence (12 points) was the only other Hurricane besides Newton in double figures.
Here’s what Williams had to say after the victory:
Roy Williams: "Last year, we lost the game that's going to be played tomorrow. And I think we kept playing. My memory is not as good as it used to be, but I think we kept playing."

"I tried to recruit Wendell, Jayson Tatum, Luke Kennard, I'd love to have them…I'd love to have 1 or 2 of those guys but I'd like to have a few others that I can enjoy." Roy Williams on recruiting against Duke

Roy Williams’ press conference ended, and he left, only to bring Theo Pinson back to deliver a quick reminder. Pinson: “I just wanted to make sure that everyone knows Coach is packing four suits this week.”
