West Virginia transfer Lamonte McDougle lands at Washington State

West Virginia lost the services of defensive tackle Lamonte McDougle this offseason, and the stellar lineman is headed off to the West Coast.

McDougle will play for Washington State in 2019, the school announced Wednesday.

McDougle will have to sit out a year after leaving West Virginia, but Washington State should be excited to land the rising sophomore. While with the Mountaineers, McDougle had 23 tackles as a freshman, sacked opposing quarterbacks twice and forced a fumble. He was a 3-star prospect coming out of high school, but showed in Morgantown, W. Va., that he has a future in FBS football.

West Virginia will have to work hard to replace McDougle’s potential. The Mountaineers blocked McDougle from transferring to other Big 12 teams, but that doesn’t stop the hole he leaves in the defensive line rotation. Incoming transfers Kenny Bigelow and Jabril Robinson could help fill the gap left by McDougle’s departure.

But West Virginia fans will be forgiven if they feel forlorn next year when they see McDougle clogging up the middle for Washington State against a conference foe.
