USC’s women’s track and field team won the NCAA title over the weekend thanks to an unbelievably thrilling finish in the 4x400m relay final. Those same four women found themselves on a different roundabout path on Wednesday, back in their home city of Los Angeles.

Trojans runners Kendall Ellis, Kyra Constantine, Anna Cockrell and Deanna Hill took the field at Dodger Stadium ahead of Wednesday’s Los Angeles Dodgers/Texas Rangers game to throw out the first pitch in a new fashion: By relaying the ball around the basepaths in the same order as their 4x400m relay team won the national championship.

Wearing jerseys with numbers to designate their place in the relay team’s order, the four Trojans each ran 90 feet, handing off the baseball at each base. Of course, it was Ellis who ran the anchor leg of the much shorter journey, going from third to home, where she placed the ball in the glove of Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp.

In case you didn’t catch college track’s greatest finish in quite some time, here’s a refresher below:

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi … Darío Conca? The newest Austin Bold FC signing is the answer to a modern soccer trivia stumper. Conca was once the world’s third highest-paid player, after Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande dipped into South America to sign the Argentine midfielder in 2011. His reported salary that...
