Duke’s NCAA Tournament opponent calls out Grayson Allen over ‘tripping stuff’

No. 2 seed Duke is slated to match up with No. 15 Iona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, March 15. And if the Blue Devils needed any more motivation to push past the upset-minded Gaels, junior guard Rickey McGill provided that while speaking with Josh Thomson of The Journal News.

While other coaches are talking up what makes guard Grayson Allen so special, McGill was more focused on making it clear that he and his teammates have discussed the senior’s tripping past.

“The tripping stuff, I’m not really a big fan of that,” said McGill. “If he wants to start tripping then we can turn it into a tripping match. But I’m not really getting into that.”

While Allen had a tumultuous 2016-17 with repeated complaints of tripping, he’s remained relatively out of the (negative) spotlight this season.

Allen was loosely accused of tripping against Virginia Tech, and the college basketball universe lost its mind over a alleged “hip check” against North Carolina.

Former Auburn and NBA standout Charles Barkley then took fans to task over making a mound out of a molehill over Allen’s on-court actions.

We’ll see what happens when Duke takes the floor in Pittsburgh against Iona at 2:45 p.m. ET on Thursday afternoon.

Golden’s Nuggets: Longhorns have newfound prosperity … don’t they?

Texas and prosperity. The two have been mutually exclusive in recent years. Until now. Prosperity is a good thing, even if it’s in a small sample like we’ve witnessed over the past couple of weeks. The Longhorns will take it given what’s gone down on the Forty Acres over the past four seasons. The sudden success led to an interesting...
