NBA G League: Austin Spurs win battle inside against Memphis


Matt Costello corralled 14 rebounds and scored 10 points and Amida Brimah had15 rebounds and eight blocked shots as the Austin Spurs thrashed the Memphis Hustle 121-99 in an NBA G League game Friday night in Memphis, Tenn.

Austin (12-8) dominated inside with a 68-46 edge on points in the paint and 22 offensive rebounds, six by Costello and five by Brimah.

Rookie Jaron Blossomgame led the Spurs with 20 points — his 11th straight game in double figures. Teammates Darrun Hilliard (17), Olivier Hanlan (16), Jeff Ledbetter (15) and Livio Jean-Charles (10) also scored in double figures. Hilliard added six rebounds, and Ledbetter contributed five assists.

The Spurs got off to a fast start with a 17-2 run to go ahead 21-7. They led 37-20 after the first quarter and 63-42 at the half.

Austin Nichols led the Hustle (7-12) with 21 points and eight rebounds, and Jordon Crawford had 16 points and seven assists.

The Spurs’ next game will be at 7:30 p.m. against the Lakeland Magic at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
