Noonan’s walk leads Round Rock to win over Memphis

The Round Rock Express held the Memphis Redbirds to just four hits on the way to a 5-3 win in the series opener Tuesday at Dell Diamond.

Nick Noonan drew a bases-loaded walk in the first inning to get the Express (62-72) on the scoreboard.

Christian Lopes scored on the play to give the Express a 1-0 lead after he led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a single by Scott Heineman and then went to third on a walk by Tommy Joseph.

After Round Rock added four runs, the Redbirds (80-54) cut into the deficit in the seventh inning when Edmundo Sosa hit a three-run home run.

Joseph doubled in the third inning to score Scott Heineman. Noonan drew a second bases-loaded walk before Juan Centeno hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.

Tayler Scott (5-5) got the win with three innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Memphis starter Jake Woodford (4-5) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game. R.J. Alvarez retired the side in order for his 24th save of the season.

Willie Calhoun had an RBI double for the Express. It was his 32nd of the season to tie for second place in the league.

Round Rock has two more contests with the Redbirds to close out the home season before closing the season at Iowa.
