Nola, Mooney lift New Orleans over Round Rock


Austin Nola homered and singled, driving in three runs as the New Orleans Baby Cakes beat the Round Rock Express 9-2 Friday at Dell Diamond.

Peter Mooney doubled and singled twice with two runs for New Orleans.

With the game tied 1-1, the Baby Cakes took the lead for good in the fourth inning when Tomas Telis homered to bring home Isan Diaz.

The Baby Cakes later added five runs in the fifth and one in the eighth to finish off the blowout.

Nola’s home run drove in two in the fifth inning to put the Baby Cakes up 5-1. Another home run, this time by Peter O’Brien drove in three more runs to make it 8-1.

New Orleans left-hander, and former Longhorn, Dillon Peters (5-7) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on nine hits over seven innings. Peters struck out six and walked just one. The former Longhorn has played seven games for the Miami Marlins this season, going 2-2 with a 7.16 ERA in the majors.

Opposing starter Austin Bibens-Dirkx (3-5) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game after a rough outing in which he allowed eight runs and seven hits over five innings.

Carlos Perez singled three times for the Express. Christian Lopes went 2 for 4 with a run scored. Scott Heineman also scored for Round Rock. Tommy Joseph drove in two runs for the Express.
