Blanco, Duggar lift Sacramento over Round Rock in series opener


Gregor Blanco was a triple short of the cycle, driving in two runs as the Sacramento River Cats beat the Round Rock Express 7-5 in the series opener on Wednesday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

Steven Duggar doubled and singled twice, also stealing a base for Sacramento.

Down 1-0, the River Cats took the lead for good with six runs in the second inning. The River Cats sent 10 men to the plate as Ronnie Freeman hit a three-run home run and Blanco hit a two-run home run en route to the five-run lead.

The River Cats tacked on another run in the seventh when Chase d’Arnaud scored on a ground out.

Round Rock saw its comeback attempt come up short after Willie Calhoun hit an RBI single, driving in Nick Noonan in the seventh inning to cut the Sacramento lead to 7-5.

Sacramento starter Taylor Hill (1-1) picked up the win despite allowing four runs and seven hits over five innings. Opposing starter Deolis Guerra (2-2) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game after giving up three runs and two hits over 1 1/3 innings. Derek Law pitched two scoreless innings for his fifth save of the season.

For the Express, Tommy Joseph doubled twice, driving home two runs. Calhoun doubled twice and singled, driving home two runs. Drew Robinson hit a solo home run in the fourth to cut the lead to three.
