Your Austin guide to sweet National Ice Cream Day deals

Did someone say … ice cream? We’ve got the scoop for ya.

We’ve put together a list of places across the Austin area offering some sweet deals on ice cream scoops, cones and more for Sunday’s National Ice Cream Day.

Did we miss one? Let us know in the comments, or email statcomed@statesman.com.

Sweet Ritual

Stop by to get a free mini “Death Metal by Chocolate” patch if you’re one of the first 300 people to make a purchase. And don’t forget your pups. They get free pup cups! From the ice cream shop, you can walk over to Toy Joy and snap a #selfie in front of the store’s 10-foot selfie wall painted by Peelander Yellow, according to their Facebook event page.

Cow Tipping Creamery

Celebrate with some lux golden ice cream cones, because celebrating in style is necessary. The creamery will have small waffle cones of any soft serve you choose wrapped in a real edible gold leaf, according to their Facebook event page. For $8, it’s all yours. Just make sure to get there early, because supplies are limited.

Lick

Scoops for a good cause! If you stop by any Austin or San Antonio location to pick up a sweet treat on Sunday, Lick is donating 10 percent of its sales that day to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas and of San Antonio, according to their Facebook event page. There’s also a chance for you to learn how to make some ice cream with Edible Austin at Confituras. You can RSVP for the class here.

Bumble x DreamPops

Bumble and DreamPops will have a “Break The Ice” pop-up with plant-based, vegan ice cream pops at Outdoor Voices on Blanco Street. Get there between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for your chance at scooping the limited-edition, yellow “Passion Jacky” pops, which feature the refreshing taste of passionfruit and jackfruit, according to a news release.

Craftsman

Nada Moo and Moojo are going to have ice cream treats for you from 2-6 p.m. Get ready for $6 adult root beer floats with some Nada Moo ice cream, Not Your Father’s Root Beer and house-made whipped cream, according to a news release.

The Moojo ice cream truck will be there with $5 ice cream sandwiches, too. Find out more about the event here.

Trace

We all scream for (free) ice cream! From 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., you can get a free ice cream sandwich at the restaurant, with flavors like orange honey, oatmeal and chocolate.

Baskin Robbins

On their favorite day of the year, Baskin Robbins is launching their new Freak Shakes, a twist on their Sundae Shakes. If you download their app on Sunday, you can get offers for deals like buy-one-get-one cones and more, according to the Baskin Robbins website.

Yogurtland

OK, so this isn’t exactly ice cream, but it’s still a pretty sweet deal. Stop by Sunday and get a buy-one-get-one-free offer from 1-6 p.m.

Now, they host up to 200 people in the Longhorn Foundation parking lot before every University of Texas home game. The “Juan Heisman” tailgate — named for a replica of an Olmec colossal...

What’s for dinner? A healthy chili to kick off your fall cooking

We all know how Texans feel about beans in chili, and we all know how bean-lovers feel about beans in chili. If you’ll never, ever put beans in your chili, you sure as heck aren’t going to put cauliflower and carrots in your chili. But this vegetarian chili — or bean stew, if you will — is an excellent way to kick off your fall...

UtopiaFest, at new venue, to have its own beer from Zilker Brewing

At a scenic ranch setting closer to Austin than its past festival location, UtopiaFest Down in the Oaks returns in early November with all the things people have loved about it for 10 years: lots of live music, camping options, art installations and more. But there will be something new, too — a beer brewed just for the fest. The producers behind...

Hate okra? These slime-cutting techniques might change your mind

With one notable exception, okra is a savvy self-promoter. It puts on a show in garden and field, producing striking flowers that give way to pert emerald-green (or wine-colored) pods, with cross-sections that resemble eyelets. Okra has a sweet, grassy flavor that takes on more depth with longer cooking and a texture that can be crisp and juicy or...
