As reported by the American-Statesman’s Chuck Lindell, Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez plans to resign and run for governor. Valdez is serving her fourth term as sheriff, and is considered a rising Democratic star. One of eight children of migrant farm workers, she is a lesbian U.S. Army veteran with more than 30 years in law enforcement.

Jeff McCullough: Texas is red and will never be blue again. Some of you need to move to California.

Harlie Barnard: Great. We need a good governor that’s for all Texans, not just the rich.

Timothy Glen Wood: Not against her personally, but she didn’t seem to be particularly well liked by the Dallas County police force, There has to be a better Democratic candidate out there.

Dan Catherwood: Anyone but Greg Abbott. He’ll probably run for president anyway.

Jim Ethridge: Won’t have a chance in Texas. Only rabid conservatives are elected there.

Syed Ali: Remember. When Democrats vote, they win. Not voting is the real reason why we have these crazies like Ted Cruz and Abbott.

Ailidh Patteson: Good for her! Disability rights groups need to spearhead the campaign to dump Abbott. He exploited the pity vote during his campaign and has shown, time and again, the only person Abbott has any sympathy for is himself.

Gregg Mcphedrain: Good luck with that. She’s not a household name.

Ralph Chilton: A Democratic woman governor in Texas? Unheard of.
