SOUTH AUSTIN

2 women hurt in wreck that closed northbound I-35

Two women were hospitalized with minor injuries after a collision Sunday on Interstate 35 South near the intersection of William Cannon Drive in South Austin shut down all northbound lanes, authorities said.

Austin-Travis County EMS and Austin Fire Department crews responded around noon to the wreck, which involved multiple vehicles in the 7500 block of I-35 South, EMS officials reported.

The wreck caused major traffic delays in the area for a few hours.

NORTHEAST AUSTIN

Man found dead on Dessau Road

The body of a man was found on Dessau Road in Northeast Austin early Sunday.

Austin police and Austin-Travis County EMS medics responded to the 12200 block of Dessau Road around 4:30 a.m. The man is believed to be the victim of a hit-and-run, police said.

Police did not released any vehicle or suspect information.

3 children hurt in collision on Texas 130, medics say

Three children were injured, including one critically, after a collision in the southbound lanes of the Texas 130 service road near the U.S. 290 interchange in Manor, authorities said.

The children were taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center, according to Austin-Travis County EMS officials. One had potentially life-threatening injuries; another had serious injuries but they were not expected to be life-threatening; and the third child had only minor injuries, medics said.

After the wreck, Austin police closed the intersection of the Texas 130 service road and the eastbound U.S. 290 service road.

NORTHEAST AUSTIN

Teen charged in carjackings lured drivers with girls, police say

An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with two carjackings that happened Thursday night in Austin, in which he used teenage girls to lure the drivers before pulling a gun and stealing their vehicles, court documents said.

Eduardo Ramirez-Gonzalez has been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and was being held Sunday in the Travis County Jail with bail set at $100,000, records showed.

Austin police used GPS tracking to locate one of the vehicles and took Ramirez-Gonzalez into custody, an arrest affidavit said. Officers also held one of the teenage girls who was with him and had helped lure the driver, the affidavit said.

A gun was also recovered from the vehicle, police said.

BURNET COUNTY

Pilot injured after glider crashes, officials say

A pilot of a glider reported minor injuries after the light aircraft crashed Saturday afternoon in Burnet County, federal aviation officials said.

The pilot’s Schweizer SGS 1-35 single-seat glider landed in a field and hit a fence near County Road 108.

Federal Aviation Administration officials were at the scene Saturday to investigate.
