A juvenile led police on a chase Wednesday night that began in Williamson County and ended on the University of Texas campus, Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody said.

The incident began when Williamson County deputies attempted to stop a vehicle in the Round Rock area, Chody said.

One of his relatives called 911 and said he was wanted for burglary, said Patricia Gutierrez, sheriff’s spokeswoman. The relative gave deputies a description of the vehicle he was driving. Deputies found him and tried to stop him, but he fled.

The chase began around 8 p.m. near Texas 29 and Interstate 35, near Georgetown.Troopers got the boy to stop around 10 p.m.  Wednesday night on the University of Texas campus — at 21st Street and San Jacinto Boulevard — and took him into custody, Austin police said.

Williamson County deputies and Department of Public Safety troopers decided to end the chase around 9 p.m. due to safety concerns, but DPS troopers later resumed the chase on the road and via helicopter, following the suspect down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
