WATCH: Authorities seek suspects skimming credit cards to buy fuel at Bastrop County gas stations

The Bastrop County sheriff’s office is warning people about a rash of credit card skimming incidents reported at local gas stations in recent weeks.

Sheriff’s officials said on Facebook Wednesday evening that a suspect or suspects have been using the skimmed credit card information to create cloned cards, then using those cards to purchase large amounts of fuel at gas stations.

The sheriff’s office said the suspect or suspects are filling large water tanks on the beds of trucks with the gas.

They released a video on Wednesday of one such incident, showing a later model white Ford pickup stealing gas.

They described the truck as having a diesel Power Stroke engine, clearance lights, a headache rack, a large white tank in back designed for water and possibly a fifth-wheel hitch.

Anyone with information about the crimes is urged to call the sheriff’s office at 512-549-5086 and reference case no. 18-S-02959.
