Officials placed Grisham Middle School on lockdown for a short time Thursday afternoon because of an incident with a violent student, said Jenny Lacoste Caputo, a spokeswoman for the Round Rock school district.

A school resource officer was escorting a male student to the office because of a discipline issue when he became violent and fled the school, said Caputo. The resource officer had the student’s backpack and was not injured, she said. The student was not armed, she said. Administrators decided to lock down the school for less than 15 minutes “out of an abundance of caution,” Caputo said. The incident happened around 1:50 p.m..

Further details were not available.

A seventh-grader at Grisham Middle School was arrested in September after a loaded 9 mm handgun was found in the student’s backpack.
