Robber strikes North Austin sex shop, owners ask for help to recover


A North Austin sex shop is asking for the public’s help after it says someone broke into the store over the weekend and made off with “a large amount of inventory.”

Owner Stephanie Boggs created a GoFundMe page for Q Toys, an adult store on Burnet Road near Anderson Lane, which she said was robbed early Saturday morning.

“They smashed out a front window, took a large amount of inventory, and left us feeling pretty shaken up,” Boggs said. “It’s very violating to have someone come into your space where you work every day.”

Boggs said the masked robber didn’t take any money, but focused sights on a very specific piece of inventory — a brand of adult toys called We-Vibe that she called expensive and “techy.”

“They knew what they were looking for,” Boggs said. “It’s very desirable in our store. We sell a lot of it.”

Austin police confirmed they responded to a burglary at the store at 6:03 a.m. on Saturday. No one has been arrested yet, Boggs said.

The store is now seeking $2,500 in donations to help make up for its losses. On Wednesday morning it had pulled in more than $1,400. 

“People are being very sweet,” Boggs said. “We have a fantastic customer base.”

The store has promised to donate any extra money it earns to area  nonprofits. In its five year history in Austin, Boggs said it has given to several organizations, including Project Transitions, AIDS Services of Austin and Planned Parenthood.

“We so often ask you to give a few bucks here and there to help out folks in our community who most need it,” Boggs said. “Today, we are humbly asking you to help us out.”

Boggs said the store is offering free shipping on any products that are not in stock because of the robbery.
