Friday update: A man who told Taylor police on Thursday that he had been shot by another driver has admitted he accidentally shot himself in the shoulder, said police Cmdr. Joseph Branson.

A Class B misdemeanor charge of making a false report to a police officer is pending against Ron Collins, 20 of Pflugerville, Branson said. Collins told police during an interview at 3:15 p.m. Friday that he made up the story about being shot during a road rage incident Thursday.

Collins did not say why he made up the story, Branson said.

Thursday:

A 20-year-old Pflugerville man was shot in his shoulder in a road rage incident Thursday in Taylor, police said Friday.

He received an injury that was not life-threatening, according to a news release from the Taylor Police Department. Police are still searching for the male driver of an older model red or black Dodge pickup that was involved in the incident, the release said.

Police were notified about the incident in the 900 block of Carlos Parker Boulevard at 9:21 p.m. Thursday. The victim said he was being followed by the driver in the pickup before getting into a verbal fight with him, police said.

The other driver pulled out a pistol and shot the victim in the left shoulder before driving away, the release said.

The victim was taken to Seton Williamson County Hospital, where he was treated and released. Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Sam Brister at (512) 352-5551.
