Officials investigate Lockhart High coach after complaints

Wednesday update:

Earlier: Officials are investigating a Lockhart High School coach after administrators learned of complaints against him, the Lockhart school district superintendent said in an email to parents Tuesday.

Coach Zach Underwood was placed on administrative leave Thursday, Lockhart Superintendent Susan Bohn wrote. The school district also notified local law enforcement and has notified the State Board for Educator Certification of “the alleged conduct,” she wrote.

Lockhart police Chief Ernest Pedraza on Wednesday said he couldn’t confirm details on why Underwood was placed on leave. However, he said the department is investigating an improper relationship between a teach and a student.

Bohn declined to say what the complaints were about, citing the ongoing investigation, but said “the complaints and information received warranted this swift and necessary response.”
