10:50 p.m. update: A 13-year-old girl who went missing on Friday and was believed to have fled to Mexico has been found safe, according to the Harris County sheriff’s office.
Ashlee Hattermann was located unharmed in Mexico, the sheriff’s office said in a tweet on Sunday night.
The girl was last seen at a bus station in Katy, Texas on Friday. Her parents told San Antonio’s KHOU TV that she had run away to meet a 29-year-old man she had been talking to on social media and over the phone for the past year.
The FBI’s San Antonio Laredo field office joined in the investigation to successfully locate Hatterman.
No other details were immediately available.
Earlier: The FBI’s San Antonio Laredo office is joining the investigation to find a missing 13-year-old girl, officials said.
Ashlee Hattermann was last seen at a Greyhound bus station in Katy, Texas on Friday.
The FBI believes she traveled to Laredo and crossed into Mexico Friday night.
Hattermann’s parents told a San Antonio news station, KHOU, that their daughter ran way to meet a 29-year-old man she had been talking to on social media and over the phone for the past year and that they had exchanged graphic sexual images on a private messaging app.
Hattermann is 5’7” and 130 pounds with long brown hair and blue eyes, officials said.
Surveillance video from the day she disappeared shows her at the bus station wearing blue jeans, brown boots, a jacket and glasses. A woman visible in the image told KHOU she had been misled into buying a bus ticket for the teen.
