Four killed in Sunday crash in Cedar Park


Four people died and a fifth was injured when a vehicle struck a pole in Cedar Park early Sunday, police said.

The accident was reported at 4:17 a.m. in the 1700 block of North Bell Boulevard., a police spokeswoman said. Four victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was reportedly responsive at the scene and was taken to a Round Rock hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

No further details were available Sunday.

The accident remains under investigation.

Central Texas roads have been particularly deadly this year. In Austin alone, as of the middle of last week, there had been 74 fatal crashes resulting in 82 traffic deaths in 2015, including four people who died when their car crashed through a barricade and went airborne near the Shops at Arbor Walk in late August.

By the same time last year, there had been 40 fatal crashes resulting in 47 deaths.
