FORECAST: Overcast Friday with temps mostly in the 50s; warmer weekend ahead

Nov 10, 2017

Friday forecast for Austin: Clouds and cooler than normal weather will prevail Friday but temperatures should get warmer throughout the rest of the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunshine and more seasonal temperatures should enter the forecast by early next week, forecasters say.

Meanwhile, Friday is starting off brisk and chilly with temperatures at Camp Mabry in Austin at 53 degrees under overcast skies as of 6 a.m.

Clouds will linger throughout the day but temperatures could climb to as high as 63 degrees, the weather service says. That’s still about 10 degrees cooler than normal.

At night, the east winds will diminish but temperatures will return to the low 50s.

Outdoor Veterans Day celebrations will benefit from a shift in the prevailing winds on Saturday, as south-southeast winds will push aside clouds and bring warmer air to the region.

On Saturday, forecasters are calling for partly sunny skies and a high temperature near 72.

One drawback to those warmer winds from the Gulf, though, is the delivery of more moisture and a 20 percent chance of showers. But the increased humidity will keep low temperatures above 61, the weather service says.

Sunday’s outlook also calls for a 20 percent chance of showers during the day and at night, but temperatures should climb to 75, which is actually normal for this time of year in Austin, according to weather service data.

Here’s a look at the extended forecast from the weather service:

Monday: A 20 percent chance of showers with a high near 73. Mostly cloudy at night with a low around 59.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Partly cloudy at night with a low around 62.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Mostly cloudy at night with a low around 62.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers, but mostly sunny with a high near 80.
