FLU UPDATE: Influenza-related deaths in Travis County rise to 23, new data show

Data released Friday show that 23 Travis County residents have died from influenza-related illnesses this flu season, according to Austin’s department of public health.

Officials do not release precise age and location information about those who died, but said none of the victims were children.

Friday’s report also showed that 21 flu outbreaks have been reported in Travis County long-term care facilities.

The number of people who have died from flu-related symptoms was 11 in Travis County two weeks ago and rose to 22 earlier this week

The peak of flu season typically lasts until March, so it’s not too late to get a flu shot, doctors say.
