A body was found floating in Lady Bird Lake near the Congress Avenue bridge on Wednesday evening, Austin-Travis County EMS officials said.
The man, estimated to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene, EMS officials said. His death does not appear to have been a homicide, said Austin police, who temporarily closed a portion of the hike and bike trail Wednesday night as they investigated.
Emergency crews responded around 7:25 p.m. to South Congress Avenue and Riverside Drive in the parking lot of the Austin American-Statesman after receiving a 911 call from two people who noticed the body while walking on the trail, police said. First-responders pulled the man’s body out of the water in the 200 block of East Riverside Drive.
Police said they were unsure whether the man died on Wednesday or earlier than that. Officials have not yet identified him, and an autopsy will be performed as part of the investigation.
