Students at Akins High School walked out of school around 1:45 p.m. Monday to call for stricter gun control laws.
At 3:10 p.m., they were still protesting outside the South Austin school.
As long as students follow the school district’s code of conduct, the students will not be disciplined, officials with the Austin school district said.

Some students at Hopewell Middle School in Round Rock also participated in a student walkout Monday. Their walkout was to honor the 17 people killed in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., on Feb. 14, officials said.
The Round Rock students walked out of class at 10:02 a.m., according to a letter the Hopewell administrators sent to parents.
