2nd dead bat found with rabies in Hays County so far this month


Another bat has tested positive for rabies this month in Hays County, authorities said Wednesday.

The bat was found May 11 in northern Hays County around 10 a.m. near a residential driveway in the 100 block of Canterbury Drive in the Belterra subdivision. The Department of State Health Services examined the bat, which tested positive for the rabies virus.

Earlier this month, a dead bat with rabies was found on May 8 in Buda, Hays County authorities said Monday.

Anyone who has came into physical contact with the bat found on Canterbury Drive should call the animal control unit with the Hays County sheriff’s office at 512-393-7896 or call zoonosis control at the Department of State Health Services, 254-778-6744.
