Video: 4 guards watched as Austin man hanged himself in Georgia prison


An Austin man sentenced to three years in prison in Georgia killed himself while prison guards watched, newly acquired surveillance footage shows.

The videos add to evidence that officers did not intervene as 24-year-old Richard Tavera, who had a history of mental health problems, hung himself in December 2014 with a makeshift noose in Smith State Prison’s isolation-segregation unit.
