Technicians and contractors have been sent to several Austin Independent School District campuses to address heating issues related to freezing temperatures over the past few days.
“AISD maintenance staff began preparing the building before the new year, however, the prolonged below freezing temperatures have impacted heating systems at many of our schools,” the district said.
Authorities said maintenance workers started running heating systems throughout the district over the weekend and worked through New Year’s Day to get facilities ready for students to return on Wednesday, but freezing conditions added stress to heating system boilers, which caused “issues” at several campuses.
Some campuses only had one room or portable building affected, the district said.
The district did not say which campuses were affected, or whether classes were held in any rooms without heat.
