Real-life clowns showed up to ‘It’ screenings and it was totally terrifying

The horror movie “It,” adapted from Stephen King’s 1986 novel, broke box office records last weekend. But regular movie goers weren’t the only people streaming into the theaters to catch the film.

People, donned in full clown costumes, appeared at several movie theaters to watch the flick.

One especially scary clown in England showed up at an “It” screening. Twitter had a few thoughts about the eerie-looking audience member.

In Austin, however, clowns had a more welcoming crowd. The Alamo Drafthouse hosted a clowns-only showing of “It.” The movie theater required attendees to dress in clown outfits and even threw an “It” pre-party event with face painting and photo booths.

During the film’s opening weekend, it broke several attendance records, including the largest horror movie debut.
