Austin Film Society (AFS) will host a special Texas red carpet screening of the crime picture “White Boy Rick” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at AFS Cinema.
Matthew McConaughey, who stars in the film, will introduce the movie and participate in a post-screening discussion with AFS founder Richard Linklater.
Tickets will go on sale to AFS members on Aug. 21 and to the general public on Aug. 24 at austinfilm.org.
The event benefits the artistic and educational programs of AFS.
Directed by Yann Demange and starring McConaughey, Bruce Dern, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bel Powley, “White Boy Rick” is based on the true story of a blue-collar father and his teenage son, Rick Wershe Jr., who became an undercover police informant and later a drug dealer, before he was abandoned by his handlers and sentenced to life in prison.
The film opens nationally on Sept. 14.
