A concert and a movie: Austin Symphony to return with “Harry Potter” score

Well, bloody hell: Even if you missed this weekend’s Austin Symphony Orchestra concert featuring the score and the movie of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” you have another chance for the wizarding universe to come alive on stage.

The second installment in the series, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” will get the same treatment next spring, on April 7 and 8. The symphony will play John Williams’ unforgettable score from the second “Harry Potter” movie while the movie plays in high-definition on a 40-foot screen.

Composer Williams created the score for the first three films, and his “Hedwig’s Theme” is the song perhaps most associated with the overall series, even after other composers took over writing the score for the remaining movies.

This year is the 20th anniversary of the “Harry Potter” books. Next year will mark 20 years since the release of “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” which published on July 2, 1998.

Tickets for the “Chamber of Secrets” performance go on sale at 10 a.m. on Oct. 13. on texasperformingarts.org. The Austin Symphony show is part of a larger series worldwide; for more information on where else to watch the magical shows, visit harrypotterinconcert.com.
