Austin alcohol sales fall 3 percent in August


Highlights

Bartenders citywide poured $52.2 million worth of booze last month, down from $53.6 million in 2016.

Across Texas, bar tabs totaled $474 million, a decrease of 2 percent year over year.

Alcohol sales at Austin bars, restaurants and hotels experienced a rare dip in August, falling 3 percent.

An American-Statesman analysis of state data found that bartenders citywide poured $52.2 million worth of booze last month, down from $53.6 million in 2016.

Across Texas, bar tabs totaled $474 million in August, a decrease of 2 percent year over year.

The top-selling business statewide was the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, which served $1.5 million worth of beer, wine and mixed drinks.

Austin’s No. 1 seller in August was, once again, the JW Marriott hotel, 110 E. Second St., where receipts added up to $994,406.87.

Next was Rose Room, 11500 Rock Rose Ave., coming in at $460,272.99, followed by Chupacabra Cantina, 400 E. Sixth St., with $437,680.
