Robert Calzada

Graphic artist

Robert Calzada is a senior graphic reporter for the Austin American-Statesman. He's worked at the Statesman since March 1998 and has been a graphic designer/artist for more than two decades. He's a part of an award-winning graphics staff with decades of newsroom experience. He was born and raised in El Paso and studied art at the University of Texas El Paso. He worked at the last evening paper in Texas, The El Paso Herald-Post before it folded. He then moved to Austin via Fort Lauderdale. He lives in South Austin with his artist wife and musician/artist son. He spends lots of time out listening to his son's bands -- Curtis McMurtry and God's Chosen People...or the Curtis McMurtry Band for short and Enlaces Latinos. He also enjoys music, history, church, family and friends (in no particular order). He's also an Angels, Cowboys, UTEP basketball fan. His brothers Victor and Billy are photojournalists at the El Paso Times and the San Antonio Express-News, respectively.
