MLB's first Lithuanian learned the game where few play

The decades-long journey of a father and a son, of a game and a country, ended with a sprint.  When Dovydas Neverauskas — fresh from the airport and wearing cleats and a glove bummed from his new Pittsburgh Pirates teammates — jogged onto the mound at PNC Park on April 24 to clean up what was left a lopsided loss to the Chicago Cubs...

NFL draft: Austin High alum Zay Jones taken early in round 2 by Bills

Zay Jones didn’t have to wait long Friday night to be snatched in the NFL draft. The former Austin High star was chosen fifth in the second round by the Buffalo Bills, who traded up with the Los Angeles Rams to grab the record-setting wide receiver from a famous football family. Dealing was en vogue at the top of round two as the first five players...

After Mahomes was selected...
Crockett’s Marshall makes leap to state at 5A, Region IV track meet

Crockett sophomore Aniah Marshall was confident she would earn a gold medal in her debut at the Class 5A, Region IV track and field meet at Alamo Stadium. She surprised herself, though, by picking up a pair of golds Friday. Marshall won her first gold medal by leaping 38 feet, 3½ inches in the girls triple jump. A few hours later, she posted...

College of San Mateo offensive lineman Pesa Tupa committed to Texas State on Thursday after decommitting from Fresno State the night before. He received an offer from the Bobcats last week and made his decision after a visit to San Marcos last weekend. “I felt it was the right place to help me grow away from home,” Tupa said. “I also...
