Texas Stars top San Jose in overtime


Brian Flynn scored two goals, including one in overtime, to lift the Texas Stars to a 3-2 win over the San Jose Barracuda on Tuesday at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.

It was the ninth overtime win for Texas (23-15-4-2), which leads the American Hockey League.

Flynn won the game at 2:43 into the overtime period with the help of Justin Dowling and Niklas Hansson. It was Flynn’s 12th goal of the season.

The Barracuda (19-16-1-2) took the lead twice in the second period after a scoreless first frame.

Alexander True scored 2:41 into the middle period to make it 1-0. Jon Martin and Nick De’Simone assisted on the goal.

Roope Hintz tied the game for Texas on a power play goal assisted by Denis Gurianov and Samuel Laberge.

San Jose regained the lead before the period ended on a goal by Marcus Sorensen. Rudolfs Balcers picked up his 18th assist on the play.

With less than two minutes to play in regulation, Flynn tied the game on the Stars’ second power play goal of the night. Travis Morin and Brent Regner assisted on the goal. It was Morin’s 36th assist of the season.

Antoine Bibeau made 30 saves on 33 shots for San Jose in the tough loss.

Landon Bow picked up the win as he stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced in net for the Stars.
