Texas Stars take a win at home in overtime


Sheldon Dries scored twice and Travis Morin put the puck in the net in overtime to lift the Texas Stars to a 5-4 win over the Iowa Wild at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Tuesday night.

The win made it six victories out of the last seven contests for the Stars.

Morin’s goal came 3:55 into the overtime period and completed a comeback for the Stars (14-9-0-1). They trailed 4-2 in the second period before scoring three straight goals.

Landon Ferraro gave the Wild (11-8-4-0) a 1-0 lead in the first period before the Stars tied it on a power play almost three minutes later. Brent Regner was assisted by Morin and Justin Dowling on the tying score.

Luke Kunin made it 2-1 later in the period in favor of Iowa.

Dries struck for the first time in the game at 1:26 into the second period on a shorthanded goal.

Iowa scored two goals in the second period before Dries notched his second score of the game to make it 4-3.

Jason Dickinson tied the affair at 7:48 into the third period. He was assisted by Dowling and Flynn on the play.

Landon Bow got the win, stopping 23 of the 27 shots he faced in goal. Steve Michalek allowed all five of the Stars’ goals as he made 24 saves.

The Stars next host Bakersfield on Friday at 7:30 p.m. They’re currently on a five-game homestand.
