Texas Stars fall in overtime to start road trip

Despite making 36 saves Mike McKenna and the Texas Stars fell to the Bakersfield Condors 2-1 in overtime in Bakersfield, Calif. Wednesday night.

Iiro Pakarinen scored with less than a minute to go in overtime to lift the Condors to the win. His goal was assisted by Ethan Bear and Joe Gambardella.

Texas (19-14-4-1) took a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest, but it was the only goal they would score on the night.

Neither team scored in the middle frame before Josh Currie tied it up in the third period. He tallied his ninth of the season with the help of Joey LaLeggia and Ty Rattie.

Laurent Brossoit earned the win as he made 22 saves on the 23 shots he faced.

Bakersfield (15-13-6-0) made things tough for the Stars defensively. They outshot Texas 12-3 in the first period before Texas held a 14-10 shot advantage in the middle frame. They overwhelmed Texas 15-6 in the third period to help them tie the game.

Texas went 0-for-1 on the power play while killing three penalties.

The Stars will try to get back in the win column on Friday when they take on Stockton in Calif. They’re currently on a six-game road trip.
