Texas Stars end losing streak with overtime win


After dropping four straight games, two in overtime, the Texas Stars defeated the Bakersfield Condors 3-2 in overtime at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Friday night.

Curtis McKenzie scored less than a minute into the overtime period to lift the Stars (19-13-3-1) to the win. Travis Morin assisted on the play as he helped the Stars score two goals. He now has 30 assists on the year.

McKenzie scored twice on the night, increasing his season goal total to 17. He was selected to play in the AHL’s All-Star Classic just a day earlier.

Bakersfield (13-13-6-0) scored first and held a 2-1 lead with less than seven minutes to play in regulation before McKenzie tied the game. The captain made it 2-2 with 1 minute, 13 seconds remaining in the third period.

Brad Malone scored the Condors’ first goal of the night before Tommy Thompson tied the game in the first period. Thompson was assisted by Justin Dowling and Gavin Bayreuther.

Iiro Pakarinen gave Bakersfield its final lead of the night when he scored on a power play at 13:02 into the final frame.

Landon Bow earned the win as he made 30 saves on 32 shots.

Eddie Pasquale took the loss as his streak of scoreless goaltending ended at 142:47 with Thompson’s goal.

The teams meet again Saturday at 7 p.m. at the H-E-B Center.
