The Texas Stars defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins 2-1 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park in an American Hockey League contest on Friday night.
The Griffins (6-7-0-1) put up 34 shots to Texas’ 23 but the Stars (7-6-0-1) were able to cash in on more of their opportunities.
Sheldon Dries scored the game winnner unassisted on a shorthanded play almost midway through the final period.
Landon Bow earned the win for Texas, stopping 33 of the 34 shots he faced. He has a save percentage of .945 over his last three games. He’s stopped 70 of 74 shots in that stretch.
Tom McCollum took the loss for Grand Rapids as he saved 21 of 23 shots on the night.
The first goal surrendered by McCollum was scored by Colin Markison. Markison’s third goal of the season was assisted by Tommy Thompson and Travis Morin. It was the second game in a row that Markison scored the Stars’ first goal.
Morin now has 14 assists on the year, leading the AHL.
Tyler Bertuzzi tied the game with help from Eric Tangradi and Dan Renouf.
Neither team cashed in on power plays as Grand Rapids went 0-for-3 and Texas was 0-for-1. The Stars drew four penalties while committing two.
The two teams will face off once again on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
