Texas Stars bounce back to defeat Stockton Heat


A day after falling to the Stockton Heat, the Texas Stars bounced back to hand the Heat a 4-3 loss at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Saturday night.

Gavin Bayreuther scored the winning goal at 14:18 into the second period. The play was assisted by Julius Honka and Jason Dickinson.

Spencer Foo gave the Heat (20-15-2-3) the initial lead in the first period. He scored on a power play with the help of Rasmus Andersson and Tyler Wotherspoon.

The Stars (24-16-4-2) answered with a power-play goal of their own with less than a minute to play in the first period. Brent Regner scored with the help of Justin Dowling and Travis Morin. It was Dowling’s 19th assists of the season and Morin’s 37th.

Morgan Klimchuk put Stockton up a goal early in the second frame. The second period was action-packed, with the teams combining for five goals in the period.

Colin Markison and Denis Gurianov score the next two goals for the Stars. Markison’s came just seconds after Klimchuk gave Stockton the lead. Gurianov put Texas up 3-2 at 3:49 into the period.

Brett Pollock tied the game for the last time at 5:55 into the middle frame.

Mike McKenna earned the win for Texas, stopping 26 of the 29 shots he faced. He turned away all 10 shots he faced in the final period.

The win moved the Stars into second place of the Pacific division.
