Flynn’s goal lifts Stars over Condors in overtime


The Texas Stars closed out their three-game road trip with a victory after back-to-back losses, beating the Bakersfield Condors 4-3 in overtime late Saturday night in Bakersfield, Calif.

Brian Flynn scored the second of his two goals on the night 20 seconds into the extra period. The Stars (18-11-1-1) are 7-1 in overtime this season.

The Condors (11-12-4-0) forced the overtime with a goal by Joey LaLeggia just over two minutes before the end of regulation.

Texas scored 1:36 into the game as Matt Mangene’s centering pass glanced off a Condor’s skate and past Eddie Pasquale.

Each team got a pair of goals in the second period. Iiro Pakarinen tied the game 1:25 into the period, but Flynn gave the Stars the lead again on a power play four minutes later. Denis Gurianov made it 3-1 on another power play with eight minutes to go. Kyle Platzer’s goal made it 3-2 just before the end of the period.

Texas goalie Mike McKenna got his first start since Dec. 1 and stopped 29 of 32 shots.

The Stars will return to the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park to face the San Antonio Rampage at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
