Faces Off the Field: Kyle Davis, senior guard, Westlake

Other than winning, what’s the best part of being on the Westlake boys basketball team?

Just spending down time with the team. We are a tight-knit group. It’s always fun when we are all together hanging out before practice or after games.

In order for your team to win a state championship, what must happen?

We just need to continue to practice hard every day. I believe that your practice habits are your game habits so if we just practice championship-level basketball every day then we will be prepared for a championship run. We take a lot of pride in playing team defense and that will be key for any team to win.

What are your plans after you graduate?

I plan to go to college (solely for academics). I’m currently deciding between Indiana and Auburn to study business.

If you could have dinner with any four people in the history of the world, whom would you invite?

Larry Bird, Bruce Willis, Drake and Samuel L. Jackson.

Why Samuel L. Jackson?

I chose him because I am a big movie fan, and my favorite movie is “Pulp Fiction.” … So I would ask him all about acting in the movie and I would talk to him about my favorite scenes.

Which of your high school courses will benefit you the most after you graduate?

I took both accounting and business law at Westlake. I plan to major in business, and both classes were great introductions to business courses.

If you had the choice of being valedictorian of your class or all-state in basketball, which would you choose?

That is easy, all-state in basketball. Basketball as always been a passion of mine so to have a chance to be all-state and participate in the activities that come with that would be awesome.

What’s your favorite meal?

Breakfast. I can eat pancakes, biscuits and eggs any time of the day. I think my mom is a fantastic cook and anything she makes for breakfast is always great.

What do you think you’ll be doing in 10 years?

Hopefully I am working on the business side of the film industry. I would really like to be a part of a big-time film production.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?

I am a little superstitious so before every game I make sure I always wear the same socks and I always get ready by listening to Drake before the games.

Tell me something about yourself that most people don’t know?

Like most kids my age, I like music, but most people are surprised when they hear me listening to or singing songs from the ’80s. Some of my favorite songs are top hits by Elton John, Billy Joel or John Mellencamp.

Five 2019 prospects trending toward committing with the Longhorns

Texas designed the 2019 recruiting class to move slow. The Longhorns don’t want to win early in the cycle. Tom Herman and his staff want to win by national signing day. The fewer de-commits and drama around the class the better, at least for Herman. Converse Judson defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal is the No. 3-ranked player...
