Report: Texas A&M remains ‘zeroed in’ on LSU’s Dave Aranda for defensive coordinator

Dave Aranda reportedly remains a significant target for Texas A&M.

On Wednesday, the Houston Chronicle’s Brent Zwerneman used Twitter to report that “A&M has been zeroed in on one guy at defensive coordinator since early on: LSU’s Dave Aranda.”  Zwerneman added the line, “I expect this to happen.”

It’s a somewhat curious development, given that Aranda recently turned down the Aggies.

Just like the A&M coaching search zeroed in on one guy as its target in Jimbo Fisher, every indication I’ve received A&M has been zeroed in on one guy at defensive coordinator since early on: LSU’s Dave Aranda. I expect this to happen.

It will be interesting to see if Aranda, who’s regarded as one of the country’s top defensive minds, has a change of heart or if he’ll stay at LSU. Sports Illustrated’s Bruce Feldman used Twitter to write that Aranda could be in line for a hefty raise no matter where the assistant coach works next season. Aranda currently earns $1.3 million a year with the Tigers, and Football Scoop reported that Texas A&M is offering him “considerably over $2 million per year, full autonomy on defense and ‘anything Dave needs to do his job to the best of his abilities.'”

I'm pretty sure #LSU was going to be paying DC Dave Aranda $2M+ after Jimbo Fisher's first run at him. Aranda might end up making close to a million more a year than any other DC by the time these two schools are thru with this one battle.

LSU went 9-4 this season, capped by a loss to Notre Dame in the Citrus Bowl.

Former Texas A&M star Myles Garrett is such a freak athlete that despite weighing 270+ pounds, it should come as no surprise that he is able to throw down a nasty dunk with ease. You would think that would be the conventional wisdom, at least, but apparently, some dude at a Texas A&M open gym thought it would be wise...

It’s been assumed by most folks on the outside looking in that 4-star defensive tackle Rick Sandidge will ultimately sign with South Carolina. But there are no guarantees, now that we’re just a few weeks from Signing Day. Just ask his mother, Keshia, who recently spoke with Jeff Sentell of Dawg Nation. “He&rsquo...
