LSU remains in the mix for 5-star OL

Class of 2019 offensive lineman Kenyon Green backed off his verbal pledge to LSU right before the early signing period got underway in December, but the Tigers are not out of the mix just yet for the 5-star prospect.

Even after the departure of offensive line coach Jeff Grimes, coach Ed Orgeron and a handful of his assistants have continued to press for Green.

“They are still in the picture,” Green said at the Under Armour Future 50 in Orlando, Fla., on Wednesday. “That has been a dream school for me since I was little. They’re fighting even harder for me now.”

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Green is the top junior prospect out of the Lone Star State and No. 2 offensive tackle, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Since de-committing, Green has been in touch with new offensive line coach James Cregg, whose history with NFL linemen such as Matt Kalil and Tyron Smith are certainly sticking out.

“I’ve spoken with coach Orgeron, the new offensive line coach one time and [area recruiter] coach [Dennis] Johnson,” Green said. “I looked him [Cregg] up and he’s got a good resume on him. He’s put a lot of good players in the NFL.”

The Atascocita (Texas) High School standout does not have a decision timeline in place at the moment.

Green named Florida, Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma as the schools pushing him the hardest and that all of those schools — in addition to Alabama — round out his top group of schools.

Although the Tigers didn’t make the cut, they are still a team to monitor following his recent de-commitment.

“I just wanted to make sure I made the right decision for me,” Green said. “I opened it up to see who’s really out there.”
