Arizona’s Allonzo Trier scores career-high 32 in win over Northern Arizona

Through two abbreviated seasons, Arizona junior guard Allonzo Trier has shown flashes of what he’s capable of doing. On Friday he made it clear he plans to treat 2017-18 like his coming out party.

Trier scored a career-best 32 points in the third-ranked Wildcats’ 101-67 win over Northern Arizona in their season opener. His previous best of 28 came in a February home win over UCLA.

The 6’5” Trier—who is a preseason AP All-American—averaged a team-best 17.2 points per game last season but missed Arizona’s first 18 games because of an NCAA suspension for a failed drug test. He averaged 14.8 points as a freshman in 27 games, missing seven contests with a broken hand.

Trier was 10-of-13 from the field, making both three-point attempts and 10-of-11 foul shots and added 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Arizona also got a career-high 20 points from senior center Dusan Ristic and 19 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks from 7’1” freshman forward DeAndre Ayton in his college debut.

The Wildcats, which shot 59.6 percent, had just eight scholarship players because of injury, suspension or NCAA transfer rules.

USC holds off pesky Oregon State; What we learned in Trojans’ 72-59 win

It didn’t have nearly the drama of Thursday’s win, the last-second victory over Oregon in which Jordan McLaughlin and Chimezie Metu connected on a game-winning lob. But Saturday’s 72-59 home victory against Oregon State was just as important, if not more so. The Trojans (19-9, 10-5 Pac-12) were playing without...

UCLA outlasts Oregon in overtime in battle of Pac-12 bubble teams

It was Senior Night for UCLA, the last time starters Thomas Welsh and GG Goloman will play at Pauley Pavilion. It may have also been the last time junior Aaron Holiday wears the Bruins uniform at home, depending on if he enters the NBA draft. And if it was, he went out with a bang. Holiday’s 29 points included a key three-point play...
