U.S. judge orders fixes to ‘still broken’ Texas foster care system

Report: SMU to hire former Cal coach Sonny Dykes

SMU will hire former California and Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes as its new head coach, a person with direct knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because a deal was still being finalized. SMU scheduled a news conference Tuesday with university President Gerald Turner and athletic director Rick Hart.

Dykes will replace Chad Morris, who left SMU last week to become Arkansas coach.

Dykes, a Texas native whose father, Spike Dykes, was a longtime coach at Texas Tech, went 22-15 in three seasons at Louisiana Tech from 2010 to 2012. He spent four years at Cal, where he had just one winning season. He was fired after the 2016 season and spent last year working as an offensive analyst at TCU.

Aggie arrested, suspended

Texas A&M suspended Zaycoven Henderson, effectively ending his collegiate career, after the defensive tackle was arrested early Sunday and charged with three counts of felony aggravated assault.

According to KBTX, College Station police arrested Henderson after witnesses at a campus-area apartment complex said two men pointed a gun at them and threatened to kill them.

The incident happened at 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Henderson and another man were detained at the scene. Henderson was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence. Police said Henderson tried to hide the gun in a nearby wooded area. The gun was recovered.

The other suspect was charged with possession of marijuana.

After learning of the arrest, athletic department officials immediately suspended Henderson. He’s a senior and had only one game left to play, the Belk Bowl on Dec. 29 against Wake Forest.

Henderson started 11 games this season. He posted 35 tackles, with five for losses. He also had 2½ sacks.
