Nick Johnson drains 3-pointer to lift Austin Spurs over Iowa

Nick Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 19 seconds to play to lift the Austin Spurs to a 114-112 win over the Iowa Wolves in a matinee contest at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Thursday.

The shot gave the Spurs a 3-point lead and Iowa managed just to sink a single free throw the rest of the way. The win halted a furious fourth-quarter comeback attempt by the Wolves in which they outscored Austin 34-16.

The Spurs had three players score at least 20 points to lead the charge. Jaron Blossomgame and Livio Jean-Charles led the team with 23 points apiece. Johnson had a double-double as he scored 20 points to go with 10 assists.

Jeff Ledbetter added 18 points and hit 4-of-8 3-pointers. As a team the Spurs shot 50 percent from 3-point range. They knocked down 12 of 24 attempts.

Overall Austin shot a blistering 57 percent from the field, connecting on 47 of its 82 attempts.

Amile Jefferson led the Wolves with 23 points and added 17 rebounds.

The Spurs led by 10 points at halftime and built that lead up to 20 heading into the final quarter.

Iowa got hot in the fourth quarter, but they came up just short. They cut the lead to one point with 2:06 remaining, but Johnson hit a shot to put Austin back up by three.

Jefferson tied the game at 111 when he scored with 32.9 seconds to play.
